There are smartphones with all kinds of displays and features but unfortunately the Samsung Galaxy J1 has a small display but it is still good for many other things and different situations. For a budget phone it is not too bad at all and it has enough features to get you through day and is priced decently.
The Samsung Galaxy J1 has a nice design with a fresh look and feel. It is easy to use and navigate. It has a 5 megapixel rear camera which takes good photos in decent lighting conditions and there is a 2.2 megapixel front camera for selfies which is poor quality and is not good to use. It has 720p video recording and the videos turn out good enough. The phone has support for 2G, 3G and 4G networks which can give you good internet speed and reliability in 4G network areas.
The phone performs well and is best for internet searches and browsing. Phone call and message quality is good and clear to. There is an MP3 player, FM radio, voice recorder, loudspeaker and headphone jack. The phone also has GPS, accelerometer, music support, image support and it comes with a photo editor and document viewer. The battery life is decent and it can last a full day on a single charge depending on what you do but goes down quickly with heavy tasks.

Where To Buy
The Samsung Galaxy J1 is available from post offices, electronic stores and online. It used be available in Telstra but can now only be used with Telstra if you but the phone from somewhere else. If you choose Telstra as your carrier you will have prepaid options and month to month plans available starting from $20 per month. When you buy the phone you will have to buy it outright as there is currently no carriers selling the phone and there are plenty options to choose from after that.
The phone is also available online at places like ebay, amazon and kogan. When you buy the phone online most of them will be unlocked which means that you will be able to use it with any carrier without and problems or limitations. This also eliminates the need to pay an unlocking fee saving you around $80. I recommend that you but the Samsung Galaxy J1 online to save yourself some time and money. When you do order it you will usually receive the phone within one week.
Is The Samsung Galaxy J1 For Me?
When considering if the Samsung Galaxy J1 is for you or not there are a lot of things to think about. It does have positives and negatives like all smartphones. It has a nice design which is fresh and clean and easy to use. The call quality is clear and messages are fast. The signal coverage is good on 3G and even better on 4G networks. The internet works fast and well for emails and web browsing. Apps all run fast and perform well and there are hundreds and thousands to choose from.
The downsides however start at the screen size. At only 4.3 inches it can be hard to see at times especially when reading small writing. This also makes it a bad choice for an entertainment device and if you are looking for something for this purpose I recommend that you choose something else. The front camera is also poor quality making selfies not possible to take and the phone can be slow at times especially with heavy task and this does make the battery drain quickly.
The Samsung Galaxy J1 is a decent smartphone all in all. It is a great choice for beginners because it is an entry level smartphone. It has a nice design and a decent rear camera which good in decent lighting conditions. The front facing camera is poor quality though and the screen size is smaller than most phones these days making it a bad choice for an entertainment device. The phone does run apps well and is fast and decent for checking emails and web browsing. The google assistant works well and so does social media. The battery will last you the day on a single charge if you just use it for calls, messages and simple tasks. The cheapest place to buy the phone is online and it usually unlocked and ready to use with any carrier. I hope that you have enjoyed this review.
